Catching up with Sosie
Sosie’s mom had this to say:
1. Why did you choose to register in our program initially?
Sosie was very interested in baking and wanted to further develop her skills.
2. After camp, did you notice any breakthroughs your child may have had as a result of attending our program, academically, socially or in any other way?
Sosie was more confident and comfortable in the kitchen after completing the program. She was more adventurous in adapting recipes or trying to make desserts without using a recipe.
3. In the last years since attending our program, can you see where our program has had any impact on their life?
Sosie continued to develop her baking skills and confidence in the kitchen. She also seemed more comfortable taking on leadership roles. She and another student started a baking club in their school and led club members in baking new recipes each week.
4. What is your student up to these days? Does it relate to their work in our program?
Sosie is a first-year student at George Washington University. She loved her experience at camp and decided that she really wanted to attend college in a big city. She continues to be very independent.
5. What is her major in college?
She is currently enrolled in the School of International Affairs at GWU.
6. Did attending our program alter the course of your student’s life in any way?
Sosie’s summer at Summer Culinary solidified the interest she had in baking and increased her confidence in the kitchen. It also helped her feel more comfortable assuming leadership roles, especially in culinary endeavors.
Sosie had this to say to us:
1. What is your relationship to cooking now?
I still like it and am interested in possibly pursuing it later in life, but as I am in college now, it has been difficult to keep up with baking as often right now.
2. Do you have a positive memory from camp you can share?
Yes, I remember my friend and I learning from one of the professional chefs how to make pastry cream, which I had been struggling to do before camp.
3. In what ways did attending our program make a difference for you, anywhere in your life?
It made me realize that I do have an interest in cooking/baking and that I will hopefully get more opportunities in the coming years to continue developing it.
4. What are you up to now? Where are you headed in life?
I’m in college at George Washington University, majoring in international affairs or economics.
